Here
are some astronomical videos realized using a DSLR camera and
time-lapse shootintg. The resulting videos are - in our opinion
- quite
amazing,
showing the star motions, the Sun setting or rising and other
interesting phenomenas. A detailed explanation of the techniques is here (sorry,
only Italian language), or on S&T Aug 2009, Astronomia UAI Jan-Feb
2010, Nuovo Orione Jul 2007.
File formats:
AVI
format, XviD codec required, download here (Win or
Linux), or here (Mac). This is the
best choiche for image quality, but unfortunately some users
found that AVI files are not accessible, so we've put also an
alternative
in...
Flash
SWF format, Flash required. Be aware that this
alternative has a lower quality, so we advise to look at AVI files.
Sometimes the quality is really bad and we cannot improve anymore due
to codec limitations.
In
the past we've used also the AVI-DivX codec, that is quite popular.
This
codec is a quite old implementation, and generates a lot of quality
problems. XviD is by far better, and moreover, this codec can read also
our old DivX videos. Thanks to Valerio
Messina for letting us discover the XviD codec!
